I am currently working as a post-doc at the Biocomputing Unit of the National Center for Biotechnology in Madrid, Spain. Here, I try to adress the problem of 3D-reconstruction from a series of 2D-projections of biological specimens that show structural heterogeneity. In this context, from April 19 to June 11 2004, I visited the Discrete Imaging and Graphics group of prof. Gabor Herman in New York.

From 1998 to 2003, I was at the Dept. of Crystal and Structural Chemistry of the Bijvoet Center at the Utrecht University, The Netherlands. Here, I wrote my PhD-thesis on a novel, N-particle refinement method for protein crystal structures, called Conditional Optimization.

From 1993 to 1998, I studied Chemistry at the Utrecht University, The Netherlands. For my main undergraduate research project I spent 8 months at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble, France, where I investigated novel methods for perturbation X-ray crystallography.
